Fortec Distribution
Rushlift have agreed a deal to supply Northamptonshire-based Fortec Pallet Distribution Network with ten new Komatsu forklifts. The deal will see the trucks operating through the night at the 'drive through' operation in Watling Park hub, near Watford Gap Services.
Part of the giant French logistics group Geodis, Fortec uses an extensive network of over 60 independent transport specialists, many for next day deliveries throughout the UK.
The fleet of 2.5 tonnes capacity LPG machines, fitted with 70 litre gas bottles and side shifting fork positioners, were chosen for their combination of lifting speed, stability and reliability, as operations manager, Alan Robertson explained:
“Safety and stability are key issues for us, as we work in such a busy environment where time is of the essence. Rushlift understand our requirements and have a proven track record with Komatsu trucks on the site. We've received outstanding service and support, and impressive response times, so naturally we are delighted to be continuing on a long term partnership with them.”
During any one night, up to 100 vehicles and 4,000 pallets are unloaded in the one-way drive through, in the first of two 70,000 ft2 warehouses. Controlled by barriers and hazard warning lights, the operations floor is a 'no pedestrian' area where safety is paramount.
Fork positioners mean the forklift operators don't have to leave their seats to adjust to different types of loads, whilst the extra truck capacities give added stability and comfort, particularly when handling loads from the top deck of the trailer.
“We've road tested sufficient types of trucks here to know exactly what our requirements are,” says Alan. “As a fast-moving operation we have to provide as much protection for our operators as possible, and getting the best machines for the job means we can maintain our reputation and position at the quality end of the pallet market, where having the highest levels of service gives you a competitive edge.”
Rushlift sales and marketing director, John Chappell, believes the Fortec deal shows that working together to find the right truck specification can provide real benefits to a truck operation. Said John:
“Good service and support are essential in an operation like Fortec's, as is attention to detail on the truck specification. Having slightly better lifting speed can make all the difference when you're dealing with these amounts of loads in such a short space of time. Paying careful attention to the operational requirements means that in the long run we've been able to build a great relationship with Alan and the team. We're of course very pleased to be able to work with a highly respected business like Fortec and to growing with them in future.”
